Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Driving Behaviors

Waymo's Systems Engineering team works together to blend software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. We set the high performance standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. We're looking for talented teammates who’ll help us maintain strong teamwork and are passionate about driving results.

This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports to an Engineering Manager.

You will:

Lead ML model development end-to-end for safety critical driving behaviors to evaluate and enhance the performance, safety and scalability of our self driving system

Design experiments and assess results to make clear data-driven decisions

Find new ways to gather the required data needed to improve our models and improve data quality

Communicate benefits and limitations of new models and metrics to partner teams

Integrate and deploy metrics and models on fleet-wide data

Be able to operate on both tactical and strategic timescales

You have:

5+ years ML modeling experience in production environments at large scale

Deep experience using numpy and vectorized problem solving

Solid understanding of physics, geometry, and dynamics

Proficiency in C++ and Python

Ability to learn and utilize new frameworks quickly, employing AI tools or otherwise

Proven ability to work cross functionally with both Product and Engineering stakeholders

We prefer:

Experience working with ML models for autonomous systems

Proficiency in SQL

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements. 

Salary Range $213,000 — $263,000 USD
